SYNOPSIS
Urinetown is a darkly comedic satire that takes place in a dystopian future where a severe water shortage has led to a government ban on private toilets. Citizens must pay to use public amenities controlled by the corrupt Urine Good Company, led by the greedy Caldwell B. Cladwell. When the poor can no longer afford to 鈥減ay to pee,鈥 a brave young idealist named Bobby Strong leads a rebellion to fight for their right to free relief. 
 
ROLES CASTING
 
Officer Lockstock - Male identifying. Baritone. A self-aware narrator who doubles as a corrupt policeman enforcing the laws of Urinetown. Charismatic, authoritative, and darkly comedic, he guides the audience through the story with tongue-in-cheek commentary.
 
Penelope Pennywise - Female identifying. Soprano.  The tough, no-nonsense manager of Public Amenity #9. She鈥檚 hardened by years of struggle but ultimately reveals surprising depth and moral complexity.
 
Bobby Strong - Male identifying. Tenor. The dashing, rebellious everyman who works for Miss Pennywise at the poorest, filthiest town urinal. He becomes an unsuspecting protagonist and romantic hero when he starts a revolution and falls in love with Hope Cladwell.
 
Hope Cladwell - Female identifying. Soprano. Caldwell鈥檚 na茂ve but optimistic daughter, eager to do good. She falls in love with Bobby and becomes torn between family loyalty and moral conviction.
 
Cladwell B. Cladwell - Male identifying. Baritone/Bass. The powerful and corrupt CEO of Urine Good Company. Suave, manipulative, and larger-than-life, he hides his ruthlessness behind corporate charm.
 
Little Sally - Female identifying. Mezzo Soprano. A precocious and irreverent street urchin. She serves as a quasi-narrator who often questions Lockstock and the play's logic.
 
Senator Fipp - Any gender. Tenor/Alto. A greedy politician in Cladwell's pocket. A bumbling coward.
 
Officer Barrel - Male identifying. Baritone/Bass. Lockstock's patrol partner. A thuggish and aggressive policeman.
 

Josephine Strong - Female identifying. Mezzo Soprano/Alto. Bobby's mother and Joseph's wife. A strong-willed woman with a bite, able to withstand the hard hand life has dealt her.

 

Old Man Strong - Male Identifying. Bobby's rebellious father. His refusal to pay the fee sends him to Urinetown, ultimately launching the revolution.

 

Hot Blades Harry - Male identifying. Baritone. A passionate, rough-edged rebel who supports Bobby鈥檚 cause with zeal.

 

Little Becky Two-Shoes - Female identifying. Soprano. One of the poor citizens in the town. Foul-mouthed, impulsive, accusatory.

 

Mr. McQueen - Male identifying. Baritone. Cladwell's sycophantic lackey.

 

Ensemble - Seeking a diverse, dynamic ensemble to portray a variety of characters, including citizens, police officers, rebels, and employees of Urine Good Company. 

 

Note: Although roles are labeled as male/female identifying, gender and vocal ranges for all roles open based on casting

 

AUDITION INFORMATION

Auditions: Friday, December 5th; 1pm-5pm
Callbacks: Friday, December 12th; 1pm-5pm
 
What to prepare: Please prepare a 32-bar cut (60-90 seconds) of a song in the style of the show. If you have a book of additional repertoire, please bring it with you in case we'd like to hear something else. 
 
Please select a piece that shows us your storytelling abilities. The content should be something that speaks to you and allows us to get to know you. If you feel excited or inspired about your material, that's what matters. **An accompanist will be provided, so please bring sheet music if you have it. You may perform with a track if you do not have sheet music.**

If you are asked to come to callbacks, you will be provided with sides from the show.

REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE DATES
 
Rehearsals:
February 2 through March 6 evenings 6:30pm - 9:30pm

Tech Week:
March 9 through March 13 evenings 6pm - 10:30pm; March 14 from 10am-6pm
 
Dress Rehearsals:
March 16 through March 18 evenings from 6pm - 10:30pm
 
Performances:
March 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 & 28 @ 7:30 pm; March 21 & 28 @ 2 pm
 
Please be sure to clearly list all conflicts below (both confirmed and potential conflicts), including those with work, other classes, etc. Please ensure that you do not have any conflicts with performance dates. You will need to register for a two-unit course and a one-unit course at 小优传媒 if you are part of this production. Specific registration information will be communicated after casting is complete.
