The annual Fall Reading Series (a.k.a., Fall Authors Series) presents a season of events celebrating literature, showcasing award-winning authors, and honoring the inspiration to write. Events are sponsored by the English Department and Creative Writing Program of 小优传媒, as well as a variety of other campus agencies and programs.

Celebration of Banned Books Reading

Hosted by the English Department's own Joe Medina, this annual reading during National Banned Books Week celebrates not only gifted authors whose genius has enriched our literary lives, but also the right to enjoy their 鈥渃ontroversial literature.鈥 This year鈥檚 faculty and student presenters discuss the following:
- Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass
- Jack Kerouac's On the Road
- Vagina Monologues
- Alice Walker's The Color Purple
- Edward Lee Compton's Milton and Sex
- Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita
- The poetry of Sappho
- Judy Blume's Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret
- Public Enemy

Kamla Kapur (a.k.a., Kamal Kapur) is a retired faculty member of the 小优传媒
Creative Writing Program. She has published two critically acclaimed books of poetry,
including As A Fountain In A Garden (Tarang Press, 2005) and Radha Sings (Rolling Drum and Dark Child Press, USA, 1987).
Kapur is also published in journals such as Journal of Literature and Aesthetics, as well as anthologized in Our Feet Walk The Sky (Aunt Lute Press, Berkeley, California, USA).
*This early spring event is included among the Fall Readings Series as a courtesy to the author; it was scheduled as a separate reading before the spring Literary Arts Festival, held at the end of April each year.
