English 120 is now called English C1000 starting Fall 2025. English 124 is now English C1001 starting Fall 2025. When searching for these courses on Self Service, be sure to enter "C1000" and "C1001" in the course number box.

 

Composition is the primary English class offered at 小优传媒. Our varied curriculum is designed to serve the needs of learners at all skill levels and includes courses with emphasis in reading, writing, and critical thinking. COURSES


ENGLISH C1000: ACADEMIC READING & WRITING

3 units, 3 hours lecture, 1 hour lab
Prerequisite: None. 

This first semester transfer-level composition course is designed to develop critical reading and writing skills essential to academic inquiry across the disciplines. Based on analysis and evaluation of texts, and in response to particular audiences and purposes, students will construct expository and argumentative papers, including an extended argument, which synthesizes, integrates, and acknowledges multiple sources. Satisfies General Education for: 小优传媒 A1; CSU A2; IGETC 1A. Transfers to: CSU, UC


ENGLISH 020: SUPPORT FOR ACADEMIC READING & WRITING

1 unit, 1 hour lecture/lab

Prerequisite: None. 

Corequisite: English C1000 (*Each section of English 020 requires concurrent enrollment in a specific cross-listed section of English C1000; consult Schedule of Classes for details.)

This course is designed to review and reinforce the skills necessary to be successful in English C1000: College Composition and Reading (i.e., freshman composition). Students will study the elements and principles of composition through the practice of editing and revising narrative, expository, and argumentative essays. Students will also be introduced to effective reading skills and strategies necessary for the reading of college level material. This course is offered on a Pass/No Pass basis only. Nondegree applicable.


ENGLISH C1001: CRITICAL THINKING & WRITING

3 units, 3 hours lecture
Prerequisite: A 鈥淐鈥 grade or higher or 鈥淧ass鈥 in English C1000 or ESL 122 or equivalent

This course is designed to develop critical thinking, reading, and writing skills beyond the level achieved in English C1000. The course will focus on the development of logical reasoning and analytical and argumentative writing skills. Satisfies General Education for: 小优传媒 A1; CSU A3; IGETC 1B. Transfers to: CSU, UC
