Corequisite None. Recommended Preparation None. Catalog Description Continuation of Music 102. This course will expand upon the concepts and skills utilized in improvisation. Along the way, students will actively participate in exercises, experiments, and performances utilizing jazz vocabulary, scales, and theory. Developing pentatonic and melodic minor arpeggios in a jazz solo. Breaking down the jazz lines for the sake of making more music with fewer notes. Course Objectives At the conclusion of this course, the student will become proficient at spontaneously creating music with the appropriate style for standard jazz repertoire. The student will: Analyze solo transcription examples for melody generating concepts. Play/sing solo phrases using altered harmonic progressions. Perform transcribed Charlie Parker solos instrumentally and vocally. Play and improvise based on altered jazz scales. Transcribe multiple instrumental recordings.
