Course Prerequisites A C grade or higher or Pass in Music 168 or equivalent 3. Catalog Description An intermediate level course designed to provide the student with the techniques and musical styles necessary for performing in a jazz combo. The roles played by each instrument will be explored and examined in detail. These techniques will then be employed by the students in performing assigned music together. 4. Course Objectives The student will: Distinguish and differentiate aurally the sections of form within intermediate jazz compositions. Perform intermediate-level chord progressions. Demonstrate proficiency in his/her instrument the ability to utilize intermediate-level scales appropriate to jazz improvisation. Perform specific repertoire at the intermediate level. 5. Instructional Facilities a. Large instrumental rehearsal room with piano and music stands b. Stereo/video system with computer projection capabilities and the ability to record rehearsals 6.
